Grain Stores
Over recent years, Simpsons have adopted the policy
of securing 100% of their annual barley requirements at harvest
time, drying it in their own facilities and storing it securely
in their own barley silos in quality controlled conditions.
Apart from large barley storage capacity at the individual
maltings, there are two outside sites described below.
Barleys
varieties are stored separately, and in addition stored in
separate nitrogen bands.
Craigswalls
Located within 15 miles inland of Berwick upon Tweed, this
site has a total drying capacity of 80 tonnes/hr. Essential
for those wet summers!
Total storage capacity at this site is 135,000 tonnes with
in-situ aeration conditioning.
Fersfield
Located within 6 miles of Tivetshall St.Margaret, the barley
for this site is dried at the Tivetshall maltings at 60
tonnes/hr. The total storage capacity at this site is 40,000
tonnes with in-situ aeration conditioning.
