Reporting to:

Location:
Tivetshall St Margaret Maltings, Norfolk
Job Type:
Full-time/Permanent
Experience:
Quality/Lab – Two years (Required)

Job Description:
Simpsons Malt are the UK’s leading, independent malting company, with 150+ years of successful supply to brewers and distillers, with a customer range from small craft brewers to multi-national giants. Our Tivetshall site focuses on producing malt for brewers in the UK and across the world.

Probably with an interest in science and a wish to use your education in a practical way, this is a chance to be proud of high quality products. This role will be based within a small laboratory but will have breadth to the role that would make it a developmental position for an existing technician. It will guide and direct a colleague, establish and set processes and practices and gradually widen out its quality responsibilities from the lab to production process and site auditing.

The laboratory at our Tivetshall site houses a small team of technicians who work across the whole of our production process, undertaking testing on the barley and other cereals when they are brought in, in-process testing as they are malted/roasted and then finally testing to ensure the malt meets our customers’ specifications.

There is a chance to build a career within the laboratory, or use the knowledge gained to move across to other functions or production operations.

We won’t take just anyone. While science based qualifications would be advantageous, you need to be methodical, calm and detail conscious. Analysis is only half the story; you then need to be able to communicate your results well and potentially work with others with an energised, improvement focus to resolve issues and raise quality.

Ideally, you will have lab based working experience and understanding of working in a Quality Management System, trending data and using KPIs, responding to changed priorities to support production needs.

Also important in terms of personality, you should be honest, show integrity and have a desire to ‘get things done’.

In order to support Production Operations, this role will work four weekday shifts and one weekend morning shift, so candidates should not apply if that is not a sustainable pattern for them.

The successful candidates will receive:

  • A competitive salary and annual bonus (dependent on qualifications and experience)
  • Market leading Pension, Sickness & Life Insurance benefits
  • 31-34 days holiday incl. BH’s

When making an application, make sure we know your reasons for thinking we could be a good match for your skills and interests and your salary aspiration.
