Simpsons Malt say farewell to retiring Nigel Forster

Simpsons Malt has bid a fond farewell to Financial Controller Nigel Forster, who has retired from the company after more than 37 years of service.

Nigel joined Simpsons Malt in January 1983 and spent 12 months as Company Accountant before moving to the agricultural side of the business, taking up the same position at McCreath Simpson & Prentice (MSP).

From there, he progressed to MSP Company Secretary and then Finance Director and, when the finance departments of Simpsons Malt and MSP merged in 2006, Nigel became Financial Controller for Simpsons Malt.

This was the role he remained in up until his retirement and involved managing the finance team, ensuring suppliers were paid, ensuring customers had paid and the preparation of management accounts to allow managers to monitor the company’s performance.

Speaking about his retirement, Nigel – who was also on the company’s Operations Board – said: “It’s been an absolute pleasure to work for Simpsons Malt for the past 37 years.

“I’ve made so many friendships that will no doubt endure and it’s just a shame that, due to current circumstances and with everybody who would usually be in the office working from home, that I’ve not had the opportunity to say goodbye to everybody in person.

“But I’d like to wish all the staff all the best; it’s been a fantastic company to work for.”

Graeme Hogg, Finance Director, added: “On behalf of the Executive Team, I’d like to say a huge thank you to Nigel for his 37 years at the company.

“It’s safe to say that these are not the circumstances we wanted for his big day. However, we will be sure to celebrate his exceptional service once we are through this period. I’m sure all members of staff are wishing Nigel a long, happy and healthy retirement.”
