Depth and complexity
Our highly kilned malts bring body and malty intensity to a wide range of beer styles.
The malting process is similar to that of base malts, with kilning taking place in a germination and kilning vessel (GKV) but at increased temperatures and an extended duration to achieve the desired colour.
Our range of highly kilned malts starts from Vienna (5-10° EBC) and Munich (18-25° EBC) – which can be used as the bulk of the grist in some styles – and goes up to the complexity of Aromatic Malt (50-70° EBC).
Using the finest barley
All our highly kilned malts are produced from two-row spring barley, sourced directly from our network of contracted growers.
We only use varieties that are currently approved or have been historically approved for malting, ensuring quality, consistency and good extract performance.
Our close relationship with growers means that, each summer, we host brewer visits where customers are able to meet the growers who produce the barley and tour our Tivetshall Maltings to see the malting process first-hand.
