The Home of Good Malt

Simpsons Malt is an independent, fifth-generation, family-owned business that has supplied high-quality malts to the world’s finest breweries and distilleries for more than 160 years.

We’re also proud to be a Certified B Corporation, which demonstrates our commitment to operating our business responsibly and sustainably for future generations.

Quality and consistency

The two main reasons why brewers and distillers choose Simpsons Malt is quality and consistency.

From reliable base malts to innovative crystal and roasted malts made in our state-of-the-art Roast House, each batch is produced for flavour and efficiency using only the best UK two-row malting barley varieties.

In our 2025 Net Promoter Score (NPS) survey, 100% of respondents stated that they were either 'very satisfied' (80%) or 'satisfied' (20%) with the quality of our products* and insights like this reinforce our commitment to providing malt that can be trusted, delivery after delivery.

“We've dealt with most places down the years and I think Simpsons Malt is easier because it's pretty much 'fire and forget' when placing an order. Low touch when we need low touch but super responsive when we need more”

Andy Parker, Owner & Head Brewer, Elusive Brewing

Supply chain integration

We are the only malting company in the UK to have an agricultural merchanting division built within our business.

McCreath Simpson & Prentice (MSP) provides us with a direct line to our growers with more than 95% of the grain taken into our sites for malting each year directly contracted with UK farmers. Most of these growers also purchase certified seed and other inputs from us too.

We believe there is a strong correlation between the control we have over the malting barley we receive each harvest and the quality of our malts, while this also gives us – and our customers – traceability from seed to bottle.

“The art of creating good malt out of bad barley has not yet been discovered”

Robert Free, Brewster, 1888

Serious about sustainability

As a Certified B Corporation, sustainability is ingrained in our operations.

Our company purpose is ‘to sustainably grow our family business for future generations’, while our overall company strategy has been shaped by the B Corp assessment framework.

We’ve invested heavily in recent years to lower our Scope 1 & 2 emissions, while we have also been able to forge partnerships with key agricultural input suppliers and engage directly with our contracted growers to reduce Scope 3 emissions.
