Simpsons Malt Limited is a fifth-generation, family business and Certified B Corporation that is committed to the development, implementation and review of good ethical business practices.
We are aligned with the Ethical Trading Initiative (based on the International Labour Organisation convention), the UN Convention on Human Rights, The Human Rights Act 1998 and all other relevant UK legislation.
The core purpose of Simpsons Malt Limited is ‘to sustainably grow our family business for future generations’.
As a guiding principle, Simpsons Malt Limited is committed to the sustainable operation and development of the business (meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs), and this Supplier Code of Conduct aims to integrate that philosophy into all our activities and establish and promote best practice in all our operations, as well as the operations of our suppliers.
It is our policy to conduct all our business in an honest and ethical manner. We take a zero-tolerance approach to bribery and corruption and are committed to acting professionally, fairly and with integrity in all our business dealings, implementing and enforcing effective systems to counter bribery. We will uphold all laws relevant to countering bribery and corruption and are bound by the laws of the UK, including the Bribery Act 2010, in respect of our conduct both at home and abroad, and expect the same of our suppliers.
We are committed to delivering sustainable operation and development of our business and expect suppliers of goods or services to Simpsons Malt Limited to respect and follow the same environmental and ethical business practices as defined in our Supplier Code of Conduct. Suppliers are expected to ensure that their own suppliers and subcontractors do the same. This Supplier Code of Conduct will be reviewed periodically and is available on the Simpsons Malt Limited website.
To ensure compliance with our Supplier Code of Conduct, suppliers must:
- Comply with all relevant legislation relating to ethical trading, employment legislation, human rights and health and safety legislation.
- Comply with the UK Modern Slavery Act 2015 or similar legislation as applicable to their geographic location.
- Take a zero-tolerance approach to bribery and corruption and be committed to acting professionally, fairly and with integrity in all business dealings and relationships wherever they operate, implementing and enforcing effective systems to counter bribery.
- Uphold all laws relevant to countering bribery and corruption and be bound by the laws of the UK (or similar legislation as applicable to their geographic location), including the Bribery Act 2010, in respect of conduct both at home and abroad.
- Ensure purchasing practices should avoid any that could be seen as anti-competitive, ensuring that no inducements are accepted that could compromise decision making.
- Source from suppliers who can demonstrate a commitment towards compliance with relevant legislation.
- Be clear that child labour is not acceptable, and we expect our suppliers not to employ anyone under the minimum age for employment as applicable to their geographic location.
- Ensure relevant employment practices are in place including those covering working hours and conditions, child labour, living wages, discrimination of any kind, freedom of association, equal opportunities, no forced or bonded labour, harassment at work, health and safety and training and development.
- Ensure sourcing of raw materials is conducted in a sustainable manner with minimal adverse impact on the environment.
- Reduce the use of energy and resources through efficient process and, where possible, move to sustainable energy sources which will in turn reduce carbon emissions.
- Ensure water and energy consumption is considered during procurement, where relevant.
- Reduce the use of water where possible and increase the recycling/reuse where appropriate.
- Minimise waste by reduction at source and, where waste cannot be avoided, ensure it is disposed of in the most sustainable manner possible in line with the Environmental Protection Act Waste Hierarchy i.e. Reduce – Reuse – Recycle – Dispose.
Being an approved supplier to Simpsons Malt Limited is conditional on your compliance with our Supplier Code of Conduct. Unless you notify us to the contrary then you will be deemed to comply with our Supplier Code of Conduct.
In the event of a breach of our Supplier Code of Conduct, Simpsons Malt Limited reserves the right to review its supplier relationship and, where our contract allows it, may terminate our agreement with you.
