Renowned crystal malts

Our crystal malts are renowned for their taste and flavour and have been used in award-winning beers from some of the world's leading breweries.

We produce all our crystal malts in-house at our Tivetshall Maltings, which is home to our state-of-the-art Roast House.

Within five precision-controlled roasting drums, our dedicated team of maltsters use their years of experience to transform high-quality germinating barley into crystal malts, seamlessly tweaking the temperature and duration of each batch to make the desired product.

Using winter barley

We only use barley varieties that are currently or have been historically approved for malting by the Maltsters Association of Great Britain's (MAGB) Malting Barley Committee (MBC), ensuring every batch begins with grains of the highest quality.

For crystal malt production, we use approved winter barley varieties as opposed to spring barley varieties.

This is because the tougher husks of winter barley varieties can better withstand the high temperatures and intense conditions inside the roasting drums.

Our commitment to research and development has kept us at the forefront of malt innovation.

Through many trials and following feedback from brewers over the years, we’ve been able to develop unique products such as Crystal T50, Simpsons DRC, Red Rye Crystal and Golden Naked Oats.

All of these products were created and perfected in our Roast House and have become revered in the brewing community, helping brewers to make innovative beers packed full of flavour.
