Crystal Extra Dark

Crystal Extra Dark is a highly crystalised, intensely flavourful malt that brings bold toffee, burnt sugar and dried fruit notes, along with a deep mahogany-brown hue (450-500 °EBC).  

It adds rich malt complexity, body and depth, making it ideal for Stouts, Porters and Barleywines, where a robust caramel backbone and dark fruit sweetness are desired. 

While it adds deep caramel complexity, it remains less bitter and roasted than the likes of Black Malt, making it perfect for brewers who want dark malt richness without acrid or charred flavours.  

Typically used at no more than 10% in the grist, Crystal Extra Dark enhances colour, head retention, body and lingering sweetness, balancing roasted malts and hop bitterness with a warming, full-bodied malt presence.
