Imperial Malt
Imperial Malt is a bold, intensely kilned malt that delivers a deep amber to light brown hue (40-50 °EBC) and a rich, toasty malt complexity. It offers pronounced biscuit, toasted bread crust and nutty caramel notes.
It’s ideal for Bitters, Brown Ales and Porters, adding depth and structure to bring a warming, full-bodied mouthfeel to beers.
Compared to Munich Malt, Imperial Malt is darker and toastier, with a more robust biscuity intensity and a slight dry, nutty edge.
Best used at 5-30% in recipes to enhance body and malt richness, it can contribute bold malt character without excessive caramel sweetness, making it a go-to choice for deep, complex malt layers in most ales.
