Black Malt
Black Malt is a heavily roasted malt that imparts intense roasted, burnt and coffee-like flavours without imparting too much astringency.
As well as a deep black hue (1433-1900 °EBC), Black Malt adds a strong, dry bitterness and bold roasted character, making it ideal for Porters, Stouts and other intensely dark beers where a pronounced roasted malt presence is desired.
Typically used up to 5% in the grist, Black Malt is perfect for brewers looking to enhance deep colour and add complexity to dark beers, while it can potentially be used as a handy colour adjuster in very small amounts in lighter beers.
