Malted Rye

Malted Rye is a highly functional, enzyme-active malt that delivers classic spicy, earthy rye character with a dry, crisp finish, alongside a warm copper hue (2-6 °EBC).

Understandably, Malted Rye is a key ingredient in Rye IPAs, where its distinct peppery spice and smooth texture add complexity. It’s also excellent in hoppy beer styles, with its spice complementing citrus hops.

Malted Rye has a clean profile and, compared to another ‘non-barley’ malt such as Wheat Malt, it provides a drier mouthfeel with a bold grainy bite.

Typically used at 10-50% in the grist – although if using at greater than 20%, rice husks are recommended to aid filtration – Malted Rye enhances spicy depth, improves foam stability and adds a signature dry finish. It is an essential choice for brewers looking to introduce Rye’s distinctive character while maintaining fermentability and balance in their beers.
