Red Rye Crystal
Red Rye Crystal is a speciality rye malt that delivers spicy rye and malty flavours, alongside a distinct deep red hue (237-310 °EBC), making it a great autumnal flavour for seasonal beers.
It adds body, mouthfeel and a signature rye spice, making it an excellent choice for Rye IPAs and Red Ales, where a warming, complex malt character is desired.
Compared to our standard Malted Rye, Red Rye Crystal is sweeter and richer, with some pronounced caramel and dark fruit notes, whereas regular Malted Rye is drier and more spicy.
It also differs from Crystal Dark, which is similar on scale in terms of colour, as it lacks rye’s distinctive peppery edge.
Typically used at 5-15% in the grist, Red Rye Crystal enhances depth, mouthfeel and colour, making it ideal for brewers looking to introduce sweet, malty rye complexity with a smooth, spicy finish to their beers.
