Flaked Oats

Flaked Oats are a key ingredient in crafting smooth, creamy textures and enhancing mouthfeel in a variety of beer styles.

Produced by steaming and rolling whole oats, this adjunct adds a soft, smooth body and contributes to a rich, silky mouthfeel, making it a popular choice in Oatmeal Stouts, New England IPAs and Hazy Pale Ales.

Flaked Oats help improve head retention and contribute a mild, slightly sweet and nutty flavour profile. Typically used at 5-20%, they are particularly effective in increasing beer viscosity and enhancing the perception of fullness, especially in styles aiming for a fuller-bodied, soft drinking experience.

Unlike Malted Oats, which have enzymatic activity, Flaked Oats offer little fermentable sugar, making them ideal when mashed alongside highly diastatic base malts. They provide a more neutral, smooth flavour with less graininess, allowing the beer’s hops and malts to shine.
