Munich Malt
Munich Malt is a rich, deeply kilned malt that enhances beers with a warm amber hue (18-22 °EBC) and an intense malt complexity. It delivers deep biscuit, toasted bread and light caramel notes, making it an excellent choice for malt-forward styles like Bocks, Märzens, Dunkels and rich Amber Ales.
With a slightly higher residual sweetness than Vienna Malt, it provides a more pronounced malt backbone, adding depth and body without excessive caramelisation.
Compared to Vienna Malt, Munich is darker, fuller and more malty, bringing stronger toasty and biscuity notes. It can be used at 10-50% in recipes to boost malt complexity or even at 100% for robust, malt-driven beers.
Against higher-kilned malts like Imperial or Aromatic Malt, Munich is less intense but still impactful, offering rounded malt depth rather than sharp sweetness. It’s perfect for brewers looking to elevate malt richness while maintaining smooth drinkability.
