Malt of the Month – Low Colour Maris Otter

September’s Malt of The Month is otter-ly fantastic! Want to find out more about our speciality, well modified, high performing malt Low Colour Maris Otter?

A heritage barley variety, it used to produce the premium quality base malt with high extract, high enzymic activity and low nitrogen content. If you’re thinking about trying out our Low Colour Maris Otter, here are some important things to know about.

Taste & flavour
Low Colour Maris Otter gives off a fresh and malty flavour without impacting the overall colour of the brew.

Traditionally used in pale ales, Low Colour Maris Otter is a fantastic all-rounder.  Kilned at a low temperature, this malt is perfect for Cask IPAs, Light Coloured Ales and superior modern beers. Its low nitrogen content and high extract result in a high-performing malt which can be used up to 100%.

Thornbridge Brewery is a customer of Low Colour Maris Otter. This is what Head Brewer Rob Lovatt had to say about our Malt of the Month: “Low Colour Maris Otter gives me a superior flavour compared to today’s modern varieties.”
