Growers Groups
As part of our Growers Groups concept, select farms grow malting barley or distilling wheat for specific distilling customers, with the grain stored separately thanks to our large grain storage infrastructure.
Water Recycling
Explore how we've reduced the demand on water abstraction from the on-site borehole at our Tweed Valley Maltings through reverse osmosis (RO) at our water treatment plant.
Case Study
Energy Centre
Operational in late 2024, the Energy Centre neighbouring our Tweed Valley Maltings has cut emissions from malt production at the site by 72% through the use of wind energy backed up by biomass to power the kilning process.

HVO
Since 2021, we've used ISCC-certified HVO across our fleet and machinery, cutting transport emissions by close to 90% and supporting fossil-free malt deliveries.
Reducing Roasting Emissions
At our Tivetshall Maltings, a smoke abatement system linked to the roasting process has significantly improved environmental performance and benefited local residents.
Farm Sustainability Assessment (FSA)
Since 2020, we’ve helped more than 800 growers achieve top-tier FSA sustainability ratings, with most reaching Gold – supporting responsible sourcing and sustainable farming.
Low Carbon Fertilisers
We've partnered with two of the world's largest fertiliser companies – Yara and OCI – on the supply of low-carbon fertilisers to contracted growers.
xarvio Field Manager
We've linked up with BASF Agricultural Solutions through xarvio Field Manager – a data-driven tool that helps us and our growers reduce carbon emissions at field level.
Cover Cropping
We support sustainable farming through cover crops, biodiversity seed mixes and expert fertiliser advice – helping growers boost soil health and nutrient efficiency.
Variety Trials Sites
Each year, we run an extensive programme of spring barley and distilling wheat variety trials, which play a crucial role in helping us evaluate the agronomic and distilling performance of new and existing varieties.
Our Farm
To better understand the challenges that farmers face with each season, as well as the changing marketplace, we operate our own 370-acre farm: West Burton near the village of Bamburgh in Northumberland.
